In September 2023, Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) revealed its ambitious plans for a groundbreaking $1 billion investment in Reno. The highlight of the project is the construction of a new arena that will serve as the home for the University of Nevada Men’s Basketball team, the Wolf Pack, among other exciting amenities. Reno Planning Commission Gives Unanimous Approval

Seeking Tax Increment Financing
Last year, GSR requested financial assistance from the city of Reno for the GSR Arena project. The transformative endeavor sought $97 million in tax increment financing, equating to 9.7% of the total estimated investment.
Tax increment financing involves reinvesting a portion of the anticipated property tax revenue generated by the project back into the development itself. Ongoing discussions and negotiations are currently underway to determine the specifics of the financing arrangement. While there is no set deadline for the process, talks are scheduled to continue this week.
The reimagined Grand Sierra Resort is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2027, but additional approvals will be required as the project progresses. During the construction phase, over 5,000 temporary jobs are anticipated to be created, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
